During the year 2001, Cielos transported over
1300 live animals. Skies' crew that handles these
operations are highly specialized and qualified
in all the effective regulations.
The current regulations for the transportation
of live animals are detailed in the IATA's document
"Regulation for the Transportation of Live
Animals." In addition to the previous, several
regulations established by the different countries
of origin, traffic and destination of the animals
must be fulfilled.
Responsibilities of the
Shipper:
The shipper must fulfill the following requirements
before his shipment is accepted:
- Provide all the
necessary documentation.
- Ensure that the
corrals or containers are built according to
the IATA regulations.
- Provide all the
instructions for the general care of the animals,
including food and water needs.
- If transshipments
are necessary at any tract of the transfer,
coordinate with whoever corresponds.
- Report if the
animal is pregnant.
Reservations
The room requirements for the transfer of the
live animals should be confirmed for the whole
air route up to the final destination. If caretakers
will accompany the animals, permission must be
requested to the airline company and room requirements
must be detailed.
The reservation must include the following information:
- Airwaybill Number.
- Number of pieces
to be shipped.
- Weight and dimensions
of the corrals or animals.
- Description
and amount of animals according to their species.
- Departure airport.
- Transit airport.
- Destination
airport.
- Name and number
of the consignee's telephone.
Care
and resources required for the animals, both in
route as at their destination.
Caretakers of Animals
The animals' caretakers will be accepted on board,
as long as it was requested with the due anticipation
and only if the following conditions are meet:
The shipper must provide the caretakers, who should
be hired for their ability and experience in the
handling of the species to embark. The shipper
must also provide any sedatives that might be
necessary.
The caretakers must have the corresponding visas
for the destination countries and also those required
by the transshipment countries.
